The Lexington Hippos had a hell of a month of May, with both the Junior and the Age Group teams racing multiple times.
The Juniors kicked off the month on May 4th at the Richmond Junior and Youth Elite Cup, giving most not only their first ever triathlon race, but a draft-legal triathlon at that! We had some mixed results from a crash to a lead group off the bike. (K. Gatewood DNF, K. Atkins 65th, C. Reichel 31st, C. Janzow 51st, C. Conklin 50th, C. Beiting 56th, H. Cioci 24th, N. Janzow 52nd)
The very next weekend the Juniors were back at it in the second stop of the Joule Financial Splash ‘n’ Dash Series at the Pavilion in Georgetown on May 10. The overall male and female winners came from the Hippos junior team, as well as the runner-up male: H. Cioci 1st, C. Janzow 2nd, C. Beiting 1st.
The adult team had a dudes-only party on May 19 at the Chattanooga 70.3 half-ironman. Special thanks to Kevin Davis (and family) for hosting such a large crew for dinner the night before the event! There were a lot of really impressive performances from the crew: R. Kimberlin 4:32:13 14/291 in M45-49, K. Davis 4:49:39 39/231 M30-34, K. Ryan 4:04:00 11/24 MPRO, G. Vanmeter 5:06:13 68/264 M35-39, L. Sachs 5:19:29 55/225 M50-54, A. Woomer 5:42:38 114/231 M30-34, E. Dunlap 5:53:46 27/56 M18-24.
Some of the Lady Hippos decided to get involved at the Cardinal Sprint on 5/26 with a few great performances. On the women’s side the Hippos had the Overall 4th place and Athena champion, and on the men’s we had Overall 1,2,4! Eli, Kate, and Keith won their AG’s as well! R. Wilson 1:15:01 1st Athena, K. Coming up in June, we have a single Junior Hippo racing the Pleasant Prairie Junior Elite Cup on June 2, we start up our open water swims at Proud Mary’s, and the first ever duel with Rocksport at TriLouisville!
