The Lexington Hippos are an age-group triathlon team and training squad operating in the central Kentucky region.
Irrespective of age, experience, and ability, each Hippo is driven to compete and perform at the highest levels attainable in the sport of triathlon. By sharing our talents and experience in a group training environment, we get the most out of ourselves every time we train.
The Lexington Hippos are also committed to growing triathlon and multisports in the central Kentucky area. In addition to supporting local events, in 2020 we will be hosting a weekly open water training venue from May-September in the Kentucky River.
The Coach
The Lexington Hippos are coached by professional triathlete Kevin Ryan. Kevin has been racing professionally since 2013 and before that was a long-distance freestyler for the University of Kentucky from 2006-2010. He was the founding coach of the Transylvania University NCAA Women’s Triathlon team and is also currently the head coach of the Swimchester Sailfish year-round swim team and Masters team.
As a coach, Kevin has guided dozens of athletes to National and World Championship races, a 100% first-ironman-attempt completion rate, and overall and age-group podiums at some of the classic local races like the Tri for Sight. In 2017, he coached a National Senior Games champion and bronze medalist. In 2018 he coached his first athlete to earning her professional license. In 2019, he coached the USA Triathlon Junior Non-Drafting Triathlete of the Year. For coaching inquiries, he can be reached at kevinmichaelryan@gmail.com or from our Contact page.
