End-of-Season Celebration

The inaugural season for the Lexington Hippos was a mix of laughter and grit, with major milestones reached and achievements all around. Our founding goal is to grow multi-sport racing in central Kentucky, which we accomplished beginning with our first race of the year in Shelbyville (and an overall win!) until the final race of the year in Louisville.

Hippos took the podium in nearly every race we participated in. Three athletes qualified and competed at the national level and one athlete accomplished a years-long goal of finishing a full Ironman.

We met regularly during the week and grew together as friends and teammates. There is something uniquely bonding about diving into water at 5:15am twice a week, running hill sprints in the dark before sunrise, or dodging debris in the Kentucky River.

At our end-of-season party at Bicycle Face in Lexington, there were a few notable awards:

  • Best Season- Sally Corrigan
  • Most Improved- Rachel Wilson
  • Best Upcoming 2018 Season- Kevin Davis
  • Best Performance of 2017- Sally Corrigan with her AG Win at the National Senior Games and Tim Stout with his Ironman Louisville result

Training is beginning to ramp back up, with group workouts kicking off again in January for the 2018 Lexington Hippos season!
